Radon Testing

Common questions about radon and what to expect from your test.

How do I know if my home has radon?

A: You can't see, smell, or taste radon — the only way to know is to test. Testing is simple, non-invasive, and gives you a definitive answer.

What radon level is considered unsafe?

A: The EPA recommends taking action if indoor radon levels reach 4 pCi/L or higher. Levels between 2–4 pCi/L are considered elevated and worth monitoring or addressing.

How does radon testing work?

A: We place certified electric monitors at the appropriate locations in your property. The monitors remain on-site for 48 hours to capture accurate short-term readings, then we return to retrieve the equipment and generate your report.

How long does radon testing take?

A: Monitors are placed on-site for 48 hours. After retrieval, your written report is delivered within approximately 24 hours — total turnaround is about 3 business days.

Do I need to be home during testing?

A: You need to be available for monitor placement and retrieval. During the 48-hour monitoring period you can go about your normal routine — no need to stay home.

How many monitors will my property need?

A: One monitor covers up to 2,000 sq ft and one foundation type. The base price of $255 includes up to 2 monitors, which covers most properties. Larger properties or those with multiple foundation types and larger square footage may require additional monitors at $75 each.

Is radon common in the Chicagoland area?

A: Yes. Illinois — including DuPage County and the greater Chicagoland area — has elevated radon potential due to local soil and geology. Testing is especially recommended for basements and lower-level living spaces.

What happens if my radon levels are high?

A: Your report will clearly explain your results and what they mean. If levels require action, we can point you toward licensed radon mitigation professionals — we focus exclusively on testing so you receive an independent, unbiased result.

Mold Testing

Common questions about mold and what to expect from your test.

How do I know if I have a mold problem?

A: Common signs include musty odors, visible discoloration on walls or ceilings, and allergy-like symptoms that improve when you leave the building. Testing is the only way to confirm what's present and at what levels.

What's the difference between air sampling and surface sampling?

A: Air sampling measures airborne mold spore concentrations throughout your space. Surface sampling identifies mold on specific materials — useful when there's visible growth or a targeted area of concern. Most tests include both types.

Why is an exterior sample collected?

A: An outdoor baseline sample is collected alongside indoor samples so we can compare your indoor mold levels to what's naturally present outside. This comparison is essential for accurate interpretation of your results.

How long does mold testing take?

A: On-site sample collection takes approximately 30 minutes. Lab processing takes about 2 business days, and your written report follows within 1 business day of receiving the results — total turnaround approximately 3 business days.

Is mold testing the same as a mold inspection?

A: No. A mold inspection is a visual assessment only. Mold testing involves collecting physical samples and sending them to an accredited laboratory — it gives you documented, scientific data about what is present in your air and on surfaces.

How much does mold testing cost?

A: Mold testing starts at $375 for properties up to 1,000 sq ft — that includes 1 exterior and 1 interior sample. For larger properties, 1 additional interior sample is added per 1,000 sq ft at $105 per sample.

What happens if mold is found?

A: Your report will clearly explain your results and what they mean. If elevated mold levels are identified, we can point you toward licensed mold remediation professionals — our role is independent testing so you have unbiased information to act on.
